About us

Engineering Zero Liquid Discharge Solutions Around Your Effluent

Shail Vac Engineers designs and engineers Zero Liquid Discharge Systems for complex industrial wastewater and high-TDS streams. From wastewater concentration and evaporation to water recovery and resource recovery, our solutions are developed around the characteristics of each industry’s effluent.

Industrial wastewater is never one-size-fits-all. Salt concentration, chemical load, scaling behaviour, flow rate, and recovery requirements can vary significantly from one application to another.

That is why Shail Vac follows an effluent-first, technology-second approach.

We Don't Just Treat Effluent. We Turn
It into an Asset.

Industrial wastewater management should go beyond disposal. A properly engineered Zero Liquid Discharge Plant can help industries recover water for reuse, reduce dependency on liquid-waste disposal and manage concentrated streams more effectively. Shail Vac evaluates each project around process requirements, wastewater characteristics, utility availability and the required recovery objective before selecting the technology configuration.

How it works

How Does a Zero Liquid Discharge System Work?

A Zero Liquid Discharge System recovers water from industrial wastewater while managing the remaining concentrated solids or salts.

Shail Vac’s core engineering: the evaporation and ZLD stage

Industrial Wastewater

Effluent from the process line, carrying dissolved salts and solids.

Upstream Treatment

Wastewater first passes through ETP and, where applicable, RO.

Leaves a high-TDS or RO reject stream that needs further concentration

Evaporation

Concentrates the wastewater. Technology is selected by effluent characteristics.

  • MEE
  • MVR
  • Forced Circulation

Crystallization & Drying

The remaining concentrated stream is processed further into solids.

  • Crystallizer
  • ATFD
Output

Recovered Water

Vapour is condensed into water that can be reused where suitable.

Output

Concentrated Solids or Salts

Managed as solid residue, so no liquid effluent leaves the plant.

No standard equipment package. The exact configuration depends on:

  • Wastewater
  • Utilities
  • Desired recovery
  • Process requirements

HOW IT WORKS

How Does a Zero Liquid Discharge System Work?

A Zero Liquid Discharge System is designed to recover water from industrial wastewater while managing the remaining concentrated solids or salts.

In a typical industrial treatment route, wastewater first passes through upstream treatment such as ETP and, where applicable, RO. The remaining high-TDS or RO reject stream then requires further concentration.

Shail Vac’s core engineering comes into play at this evaporation and ZLD stage.

Depending on the characteristics of the effluent, technologies such as MEE, MVR or Forced Circulation Evaporators may be used to concentrate the wastewater. Recovered vapour is condensed into water that can be reused where suitable, while the remaining concentrated stream can be processed further through crystallization or drying technologies such as ATFD.

The exact configuration depends on the wastewater, utilities, desired recovery and process requirements, not on a standard equipment package.

OUR TECHNOLOGIES

Technologies Behind Our ZLD & Evaporation Solutions

MEE: Multiple Effect Evaporator

Uses multiple evaporation effects to improve steam utilization and concentrate industrial wastewater.

MVR: Mechanical Vapour Recompression

Recompresses and reuses generated vapour as a heat source, supporting energy-efficient evaporation in suitable applications.

Forced Circulation Evaporator

Designed for challenging wastewater streams where scaling, crystallization or high solids require controlled circulation.

Crystallization & OSLO Systems

Used in suitable applications to separate salts from concentrated wastewater and support resource recovery.

ATFD

Used to further process concentrated sludge or slurry into a dry solid form where the process requires it.

Vacuum Engineering

Vacuum enables evaporation at lower operating temperatures and forms an important part of Shail Vac’s evaporation engineering capability.

WHY SHAILVAC

Why Industries Work with Shail Vac

Wastewater First. Technology That Fits.

We start by understanding the wastewater before recommending the equipment configuration.

Evaporation + Vacuum Engineering

Shail Vac combines evaporation expertise with deep vacuum engineering, an important part of operating evaporation systems effectively.

Upgrade & Retrofit Support

Existing ZLD systems can also be evaluated where changing effluent, scaling, energy consumption or capacity constraints are affecting operation.

About ZLD Plants

A ZLD plant manufacturer evaluates industrial wastewater characteristics and engineers the equipment and treatment stages required to concentrate wastewater, recover water and manage the remaining concentrated stream. Shail Vac's scope can include evaporation technologies, ZLD engineering, turnkey EPC and O&M support, depending on the project.

A Zero Liquid Discharge System is an industrial wastewater treatment approach designed to minimise liquid discharge by recovering water and managing the remaining concentrated solids or salts through suitable processes.

There is no single technology suitable for every application. Depending on wastewater characteristics and utilities, a ZLD plant may use technologies such as MEE, MVR, Forced Circulation Evaporators, crystallizers, ATFD, stripper columns and vacuum systems.

The engineering team typically needs information such as wastewater flow, TDS, COD, major salts or contaminants, available utilities and the required recovery objective. Detailed effluent analysis helps determine the appropriate process route.

Yes. Existing systems may need evaluation when production capacity has increased, wastewater characteristics have changed, scaling is frequent, operating costs have increased or recovery performance has reduced.

Not necessarily. In many industrial applications, ETP and RO handle upstream treatment, while ZLD addresses the remaining concentrated or high-TDS wastewater stream.
