How an Ejector Creates Vacuum

A high-pressure motive fluid expands through a precision nozzle, converting pressure into a high-velocity jet. This jet entrains the process gas in the suction chamber, drops the local pressure and carries the combined stream into the diffuser, where velocity is recompressed back to discharge pressure.

With no moving parts, the entire process is mechanical and continuous, delivering deep, stable vacuum with minimal maintenance even on corrosive or abrasive duties.

Result: reliable suction pressures from atmospheric down to 0.01 mbar across single and multi-stage configurations.

Vacuum Ejector Systems

A complete family of ejector technologies, engineered and built in-house for diverse process duties.

Liquid Jet Ejectors

The motive fluid is a non-compressible liquid, generally water. Without heat energy and driven by a single-stage centrifugal pump, nozzle-tip velocity stays relatively low, which suits steady non-condensable loads where steam is not preferred.

Water motive No steam needed Centrifugal pump driven
Steam-free Ideal where boiler steam is unavailable or undesirable

Steam Jet Ejectors

High-pressure motive steam expands through a precision nozzle to generate reliable vacuum with no moving parts, making it the workhorse of deep-vacuum duty. Combination systems connect a liquid jet ejector suction to the last steam-stage discharge to reach very low absolute pressures.

Deep vacuum No moving parts Combinable with liquid jet
0.01 mbar Achievable absolute suction pressure in multi-stage builds

Single Nozzle Ejector

Usable for either critical or non-critical flow, though it is typically optimised for one set of design conditions. Its compact size is the key advantage, and it is generally chosen where very large compression ratios are required.

Compact footprint High compression ratio Single design point
Compact Smallest envelope for high compression-ratio duties

Multi-Nozzle Ejectors

Shail Vac’s multiple-nozzle design places one nozzle at the centre with the remainder spaced evenly around it. For the same conditions, this raises efficiency and shortens length compared with an equally rated single-nozzle unit.

Higher efficiency Shorter length Peripheral nozzle array
10–15% Lower steam consumption versus a single-nozzle equivalent

Advantages of Ejector Systems

Ejectors can be operated with different motive fluids: steam, air, organic vapour, other gases and their mixtures.
